Paediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome is deemed to be a rare condition thought to be triggered by COVID-19. Although it is a relatively new condition, it can be detected early and treated successfully.
PIMS-TS
PIMS-TS is commonly misdiagnosed because it is new and because symptoms are similar to other childhood conditions. However, all children with PIMS will have a fever (>38 degrees), which persists over several days and may not reduce with over-the-counter medications.

The Symptoms of PIMS
What are the symptoms of PIMS?
The following symptoms can occur in conjunction with a temperature and you should seek immediate medical advice:

Rash

Tiredness, sleepiness or fatigue

Muscle pain

Tummy pain or cramps
-
Red and cracked lips, often swollen

Strawberry tongue
-
Swollen fingers, toes, or hands and feet, often red

Cold hands and feet
-
Peeling skin on hands and feet
-
Headache
-
Red bloodshot eyes
-
Muscle aches and pains
-
Diarrhoea and vomiting
-
Racing heart
-
Dizziness
-
Swollen neck glands
-
Unexplained irritability
Some children may not experience
all the symptoms
If your child develops chest pain, please call the emergency services immediately.
What we know about MIS-C
Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs.
We do not yet know what causes MIS-C.
However, we know that many children with MIS-C had the virus that causes COVID-19, or had been around someone with COVID-19.
The CDC states that MIS-C can be serious, even deadly, but that most children who were diagnosed with this condition have recovered with medical care.
