Professor Mark Faghy

Professor Mark Faghy is a Professor in Clinical Exercise Science at the University of Derby, with research interests in Long Covid, acute respiratory infection, recovery, and the impact of prolonged symptom profiles on quality of life. He is also a visiting researcher at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University.
Mark is a core member of the Healthy Living Pandemic Event Protection (HL-Pivot) international network, serves on the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise is Medicine committee, and is an accredited Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCCP) and a member of the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).
In 2024, Mark led a University of Derby research team that was awarded the prestigious Nature Inclusive Health Research Award for their project, Profiling the Determinants of Long Covid. The research was praised for its patient-led approach, bringing together clinical insight and lived experience to deepen the understanding of Long Covid. The project was recognised as a model for the future of health research, securing international acclaim.
Prior to his appointment as a trustee, Mark contributed to Long Covid Kids as a board advisor, supporting the charity’s work in advocating for children and young people affected by Long Covid. He remains dedicated to improving research, recognition, and support for those impacted by the condition.
