Victoria
She never really recovered from the first infection.
That was when her brother came home from school with COVID in July 2021. Since then, 12-year-old Victoria’s symptoms seem to come and go. With no rhyme and reason to when they show up and a general lack of awareness around Long Covid, the school’s shown little sympathy so far
“I think I'm blocked as I don't get any response to my emails,” says Victoria’s mum.
However, it’s not just school that Victoria struggles with. She’s also unable to take part in any of the clubs she loves. With fatigue, a constant concern, brownies, Guides, cello lessons, and lifesaving are just no longer possible these days.
But what did the doctors say?
“Not much,” says Victoria’s mum. “Just rest” seems to be the average advice. But while the GP has been understanding, the family hasn’t received a lot of help from the chronic pain team in paediatrics. Victoria’s now in the process of being referred to the Long Covid Clinic so, hopefully, she'll get more support there.
So what does recovery look like for Victoria and her family?
“Getting back to school, clubs and going out with her friends,” says mum.
Victoria says;
“Just not feeling ‘meh’ anymore.”
