How LCK became charity of the year at Gravita

Gravita always supports a charity each year and I knew it was the right time to put the charity so close to my heart forward for nomination.

Nominating a Charity of the Year is a unique opportunity to unite staff in a workplace behind an inspiring cause and demonstrate the company’s commitment to making a difference.

The nomination process had two stages. Early in the year, everyone at Gravita was invited to nominate a charity. Five charities were then shortlisted and presented to the staff for voting. I was thrilled and also overwelhemed to discover that LCK received the most nominations.

Having a child myself with Long COVID made it so heartwarming to see that people care and want to support Long Covid Kids. The media has not always been supportive of the long COVID community, so receiving this support at Gravita was especially touching.

I knew that fundraising activities would keep me busy, but this was so important to me. I couldn't stop thinking about the hardships families face while caring for their children with Long COVID and experiencing heartbreak as they watch their children suffer, often while struggling with their own health issues.

We recently held our first committee meeting to discuss fundraising activities, including quiz nights, runs, golf games, cake sales, networking events, and a potential Three Peaks Challenge. We already had our first cake sale, featuring lots of delicious cakes and generous donations and also had members of staff ride 100 miles in Ford London in May 2024.

Being chosen as Charity of the Year by Gravita is an immense honor and a significant milestone for Long Covid Kids. This recognition not only provides crucial financial support but also elevates our visibility and credibility within the community. It demonstrates Gravita's commitment to supporting children affected by long COVID, validating our efforts and inspiring us to continue our work. The collective backing of Gravita’s staff underscores the importance of our mission and brings hope and encouragement to the families we serve, assuring them that they are not alone in their struggles. This partnership amplifies our voice, enabling us to reach more people, raise greater awareness, and make a more profound impact on the lives of children living with long COVID.
