“It’s all in her mind.”

How’s that, exactly? All Ella wants is to be a ‘normal’ 12-year-old girl.

Instead, she’s off school, isolated and away from her friends - even the shortest days proving too much.

But despite all the headaches, heart palpitations, chest pains, and other debilitating symptoms, her school refused to believe something serious was happening.

That’s until the hospital intervened on Ella’s behalf.

Thankfully, she now has the support of the Long Covid clinic and their team of OTs, physios and clinical psychologists - all helping to look after Ella and communicate with the school.

These days, Ella spends most of her time at home with her mum; thankfully, her work is flexible as life has to revolve around Ella’s recovery.

But many parents aren’t so lucky.

Unfortunately, this lack of awareness and understanding is common with Long Covid. And that means countless children like Ella are left feeling unsupported and alone. To many families, a proper diagnosis looks like a pipedream.

For Ella, the goal is to feel well enough to get back to school. Just ask her and she’ll tell you: that’s what’s on her mind.

That is why Long Covid Kids is committed to supporting research and creating resources like the LCK Educational Toolkit, and with your help, we can continue our work. Please consider donating today and help us be there for every family who needs us.
