Helen Goss

COO & Scotland Lead

Helen Goss is a passionate advocate for children and families affected by Long Covid. As COO and Scotland Lead at Long Covid Kids, she plays a pivotal role in driving the charity’s mission to support, empower, and represent children living with the long-term impacts of COVID-19.

Helen’s career began in media planning, sponsorship, and business management after earning an MA (Hons) in Business from Edinburgh University in 2006. She worked in Edinburgh, London, and Melbourne, managing campaigns for major clients such as Cancer Research UK and LastMinute.com, before successfully running her own business until the birth of her daughter in 2012.

Transitioning to the third sector, Helen spent eight years with Pregnancy Sickness Support, providing peer support to women suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Her experience in advocacy and public engagement laid the foundation for her work with Long Covid Kids, which she joined in 2021, stepping into the role of COO in 2022 and leading the charity’s Scottish registration.

Helen has been instrumental in raising awareness of Long Covid in children in Scotland and globally, working with policymakers, researchers, public health bodies, and third sector partners to push for better paediatric care. In 2023, she became a Core Participant in the Scottish COVID Inquiry and Module 8 of the UK COVID Inquiry, representing children and families at the highest levels of accountability. Her commitment to securing appropriate paediatric Long Covid care and support has been recognised by Scotland’s First Minister.

Helen and the Long Covid Kids team produced the award-winning resource Shining A Light On Long Covid In Children And Young People, a free digital guide raising awareness and improving lives. Their work was recognised with two awards in 2022:

🌟 Self Management Resource of the Year – awarded by The Scottish Alliance.
🌟 Self Management in the Community Award – Healthcare Improvement Scotland (public vote).

Beyond her advocacy, Helen is actively engaged in policy discussions on clean air, disability rights, and accessible healthcare, working to ensure children's health needs are represented in decision-making. She also writes on Substack, documenting life with a child living with Long Covid, disability systems, and advocacy with a mix of humour and sharp insight.

Above all, Helen is committed to ensuring children with Long Covid, including her own daughter, are given a voice, are heard, supported, and given the care and support that they deserve.
