Dr. Elisa Perego
Dr Elisa Perego is a researcher, and a Long Covid advocate. As a researcher, Dr Perego works across different disciplines and is published in multiple fields. Her recent research focuses on disability, health, and inequality in present and past societies. She has received extensive recognition for her work, including a Marie Curie Fellowship from the European Commission in 2017–9.
Dr Perego is a person living with Long Covid, and other chronic diseases since childhood. She was in hard-hit Lombardy, Italy, during the first Covid wave. Since then, Elisa has contributed to numerous research, advocacy, and science communication projects about Covid-19 and Long Covid. Dr Perego wrote some of the first publications in the world on Long Covid, and the rise of the Long Covid advocacy movement.
Dr Perego took part to the landmark WHO meeting of 21 August 2020 that publicly recognized Long Covid. She has since contributed to efforts that led to the recognition of Long Covid in different countries. She coined the term Long Covid.
Dr Perego is currently affiliated as an Honorary member to the Institute of Archaeology at University College London (UCL). She has worked extensively on infant health and social attitudes towards children in the past. Other research interests include human and gene environment interactions, climate change, and people’s response to crises in ancient societies.
Elisa has also worked as a teacher and educator, and holds qualifications in this key sector for children and young people’s advancement.
